I’ve got a quick one-week show up at Totem Pole next week; a re-showing of prints originally exhibited at the Shinjuku Nikon Salon in 2008. The set,Gaijin Like Me, is of pictures when I turned the camera backwards, so to speak, towards other caucasian males in Tokyo. It’s a look or maybe even a strike back at something. The pictures are ironic, unsettling, and often oddly funny.
It’s not a theme I work with anymore, but looking back at these pictures several years removed I see it was something I needed to do at that time.
