Seen: Street photo exhibition 20 Shinjuku

This is Hoshi’s twentieth exhibition of work made on the streets he handles- this one centers on Shinjuku, and features one shot (not pictured here) that would be likely be the last photograph that anyone but him would probably make. It’s good, tough work.
Remember- Tokyo street photographers like him aren’t in on (or even aware of) the Internet Street Photography scene with it’s Brands and self-help workshop hucksters. These men and women working like Hoshi aren’t “passionate”. They’re dedicated. The keep on doing what they do for no other reason beyond having a personal need to do it. I suspect that one reason why they do what they do is because they are, as Mr. Papageorge once perfectly put it, interestingly tormented people.
