CSM KX Graphic Communication studio - ‘Show and Share’ work in progress exhibition.
This was our first ‘pop-up’ photography exhibition. The inspiration comes from a magical event my friend John Sypal took me to in Tokyo a couple of months ago. It’s a very simple idea - share new work and conversation along with some food and drink.
Many thanks to Andrea Lioy and Gary Wallis who in just a couple of hours helped turn the photography area into a gallery space.
Thanks also to fellow members of staff, Marcus Bastel, Estaban Gitton, Tim Marshall for their support of the event.
Great to see more people doing this! All you need is prints, people, and a space to get them all together. It’s interesting to see that this event had work hung on walls- in Tokyo we usually lay prints out on a large table. Either way, it’s worth trying.
Other tips:
1. It isn’t necessary to have a “leader” who disperses advice froma pedestal- the best thing is for all voices to offer opinions on the work shown- which leads me to point no.2–>
2. Talk about the pictures you SEE in front of you- NOT what they “could be” (i.e. “this person’s face should be facing this way, you shoulda not included this sign, etc)
3. Gear talk is best kept to a minimum- basic (darkroom) tech talk is welcome but it shouldn’t dominate the conversation to the point it leads the discussion away from the images themselves.
