Where: 3rd District Gallery, Shinjuku
When: May 3 - 15, 2016 / open 13:00-20:00 daily
The Range of Demands is Hiroshi Ishigaki’s latest exhibition of his street work- some 140 silver gelatin prints are pinned to, or framed and hung onto, the walls of the gallery. He told me that the work is a selection of pictures taken over the past three years- I spotted a few images from a show of his in 2013 – and overall demonstrates a very good thing about Japanese street photography, namely, the fact that quantity is as an important factor in eliciting an emotional response from a viewer as more traditionally considered elements as form and content.
140 pictures aren’t too many- for Ishigaki and this show, it’s just right.
