Exhibited: Zuisha vol.13
Who: Me
Where: Totem Pole Photo Gallery, Shinjuku
When: April 26 - May 8, 2016
This was my seventeenth solo show at Totem Pole and the thirteenth in the Zuisha series- each Zuisha one contains 20 new photos- that’s 260 pictures so far. Makes for a big stack of prints.
The open-endedness of the series allows for experimentation- a major aspect for this one was the fact that it followed vol.12 by only a few weeks and as I suspected it wasn’t really difficult. I shot about 20 rolls of film and figured there’d be enough that fit together. I don’t get those who fret over pictures so much. It’s simple: See, shoot, print, repeat. My work is done through a reaction to life— but “being out with a camera” sounds better.
Another experimental factor of this show was to not utilize social media to advertise it- I don’t know, for some reason to me there’s a bizarre sense of subversion or even luxury in this.
The last three images above illustrate an example of how my Araki re-photography hobby has crept into my standard mode of photographic operation. Well, anyway, it’s all part of keeping things interesting.
