2. Nishi-Shinjuku, November 12, 2016
This was the most difficult spot to locate so far- I was stumped for a long time, but there were a few clues between the two original pictures. The local message board in the pics hinted at the general area, while the second had a small tag on the building- “15-8″ which offered a bit more precision. The uniqueness of Tokyo’s addressing system made things more confusing than needed- there’s a lot of “15-8″ spots in West Shinjuku– - but the final clue that helped most was the stork logo on the water tower cover on the apartment in the upper right of the building. Once I spotted that marker I knew from what angle to line up my lens- - and I soon realized that this entire district had been razed for another glass office tower sometime between the late 1990′s and a few years ago.
Recently I showed a friend of mine, one of Araki’s editors, some of these Re-Araki pics- he said “Everyone’s playing Pokemon-Go… but this is Araki-Go.”
