Looks like a Canon owner is missing the top half of an ever-ready case. In true Japanese fashion, a passerby must have picked the lost item off the ground and placed it here on a ledge of a Shinjuku map display. One normally finds things like handkerchiefs, baby shoes, and bicycle lock keys displayed like this in hopes that their true owners will be able to find them easier while retracing their steps on the hunt.
