A thousand polaroids and few new 6x7 color paradise pictures comprise the latest Art Space AM show- the second Araki exhibition there this year. The polaroids are mostly from the Impossible Project era- a medium which when confronted with by such a scale, seems specially made for Araki himself. What I mean is, there’s no person more fitting or capable of using something like a monochromatic pink emulsion in a fake lizard-skin patterned frame than Araki. Included in the instant photo mandala are several snaps where nothing came out at all- yet they still fit in the scope of it all. As with all of Araki’s best work viewers are able to contemplate individual frames or stand back and just let the immensity of the work reverberate as an experience all its own.
