Fujishiro’s portraits and snapshots made in Tokyo clubs back in the 1990′s have a charming innocence- maybe in 2018 what we see is a lack of the Self Awareness that’s saturated contemporary culture. Maybe it’s that these pictures show people who’ve gone somewhere to enjoy and experience something as opposed to going somewhere to be seen enjoying and experiencing something. Maybe it’s also because no one’s got their heads down and faces lit by smartphone screen glow.
The fact that the dust on the negatives was left in the scans was a nice touch.
