The third entry of Yuta Fuchikami’s On The Street series of Tokyo street portraits is comprised of photographs shot over the past six months in Ueno park. He just keeps getting better- there’s some incredible work in this show. Everything is shot with one of the most basic setups possible, a Pentax 67 with the 105mm lens and Kodak Tmax 400 film. He shoots a full roll of film on each subject. He then later prints his negs in a darkroom on Ilford fiber paper. Tech stuff aside what really makes his pictures what they are is his personality- and his genuine kindness.
Fuchikami’s new 32 page photobook of this work (TCS review here), is published by Stairs Press, and is priced at 2000 yen a copy. The book is available for sale in the gallery or online here.
