Seen: ERIC’s Live Water at Place M
When parts of Thailand flooded in 2011, Eric, a Hong Kong native who has lived in Japan since the late 1990’s, bought a pair of fishing waders and flew on over with his Mamiya 7.
His flash-based colorful approach to the streets was not by any means dampened(!) during this trip and instead offered another level of surrealism to the photographs which he created out of his encounters with the locals going about their lives with and through several feet of water. His portfolio site offers a generous selection from all of his different series- you can see the entirety of his Thai pictures here: LIVE WATER
I’ve known Eric for some time now- he’s a former winner of the Visual Arts Photobook Award (2005) and has had two other books of his street work published.
Photobooks: Good Luck China(Akaaka, 2008) and LOOK AT THIS PEOPLE (Akaaka, 2011)

He’s shooting with a Leica M7 now- lately in Hong Kong and India. Eric is entirely removed from any current Street Photo online scene- he doesn’t have a facebook page, he doesn’t spend time arguing about “SP” online, he doesn’t have a How To blog or do workshops or anything else that is superfluous to his truly impressive dedication to photography.
