Ginza
Leica M3 with 35mm f2.8 Summaron lens
The other day I was walking through Ginza, camera around my neck as usual, when I noticed two guys and a girl walking my way. The guy in the middle looked up and suddenly shouted out my full name. We all stopped. Both of the guys had Domke bags over their shoulders so I figured they were photographers. Since I am horrible with names I was sure we’d met before- but he said we hadn’t. He then told me he is a fan of the blog and magazine feature- and even my Zuisha series which was really kind of odd to hear in person.
He also said he knew we’d run into each other sometime and since he always wanted his photo here he insisted on giving a thumbs-up for his shot on the site.
I’ve been doing Tokyo Camera Style since 2008- and Tokyo really isn’t as big as you think in terms where people- photographers in particular- gather, so while it’s pretty common for someone to ask if I am who I am after I approach them being stopped on the street like this was a first. This was a good encounter and I made some new friends but man, hearing a stranger call out your name in public is a really weird feeling.
