Seen: Keizo Motoda's Sunpack
Where: 3rd District Gallery, Shinjuku
When: December 9 - 21, 2014
Earlier I’ve referred to Motoda as one of Tokyo’s Street Kings- (other royalty include Shinya Arimoto, Michio Yamaguchi, Shinji Abe, and Haruto Hoshi)- he’s out there keeping the streets of Tokyo lit. This summer I ran into him in Harajuku shooting his Leica- a shift from his usual 6x7 (Pentax or Makina W) or even his Widelux F7. There’s a difference in footwork, I think. Sunpack, titled after his Sunpack flash, features his usual rock and roll cast and locations- leather jackets, chains, tricked out motorcycles and old school cars. He does his thing, his streets and pictures are authentically his. You can see more on his site: motodakeizo.com
What else-
He has at least six publications out- you can see five of them in the last picture of this set. He has two photobooks just on chrome car details.
He rides a ‘71 Triumph Bonneville T 120R.
He’s been exhibiting photographs since 1996.
He won the Sun Award for his series On The Street, Osaka - that’s the prize Araki won in the 1960’s. You can see the two of them at the award ceremony on his About Page.
