Seen: Gekko Shashin 月光写真
Who: Nobuyoshi Araki 荒木経惟
Where: Art Space AM, Harajuku (map)
When: December 23, 2019 - February 28, 2020 (Open 1-7pm. Closed Mondays, Tuesdays)
As with all of his shows at AM, Araki’s exhibition features panels of new Polaroids and large color 6x7 prints of his ongoing Paradise series of dolls and flowers. Visitors will be able to view a very large print of his good friend, the late Robert Frank.
The show’s title coincides with the recent release of Gekko Shashin, a 510 page book of his scrapbook pages from the late 1960s. “Gekko” is not referring to a reptile or insurance- it means “Moonlight” , and was the brand name of the scrapbooks he pasted his pictures into some 50 years ago.
